Wilhelm Gehrlein

Wilhelm Gehrlein (born October 2, 1920 in Sulzbach / Saar ; † August 25, 1985 ) was a German lawyer.

Career

After military service and captivity from 1939 to 1946, Gehrlein studied law at the Saarland University . In 1950 he graduated with excellent exam results and subsequently worked for the Saarland Ministry of Justice .

In April 1955 he became a district judge. After temporary employment in the State Chancellery, he was appointed judge at the Higher Regional Court on January 1, 1959, and in 1966 he was appointed regional court director. On January 20, 1967, he was appointed President of the State Labor Court in Saarbrücken . He held this office until July 31, 1968. He then became President of the Saarbrücken Regional Court and, on November 1, 1971, President of the Saarbrücken Higher Regional Court .

In addition, Gehrlein held numerous other offices and functions. He was a member of the Saarland Constitutional Court for around 17 years , from 1971 to 1974 as its vice-president and then as its president.

For many years he was u. a. President of the Saarland Regional Association of the German Red Cross and Chairman of the Medical Court of the Saarland. For 12 years he was a member of the program advisory board of Saarländischer Rundfunk and most recently chairman of the assembly of the State Broadcasting Authority.

Shortly before reaching the age limit, he died on August 25, 1985.

Honors

In view of his exemplary work he was u. a. awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In December 1985, his hometown Sulzbach / Saar renamed the old Fischbacher Weg to "Wilhelm-Gehrlein-Straße".
