Wilhelm Grögler

Wilhelm Grögler (born September 15, 1839 in Uherské Hradiště , † May 6, 1897 in Munich ) was a German painter and illustrator.

Almost nothing is known about his apprenticeship years. He made his debut as a mature artist. He was based in Munich, but was not enrolled at the Munich Academy .

From the 1870s onwards, Grögler supplied printing templates for German illustrated magazines such as Neue Illustrierte Zeitung , Daheim , Alte und Neue Welt , Illustrierte Welt and Über Land und Meer .

He also painted genre pictures with scenes from the Bavarian highlands and Munich folk life, which he a. a. exhibited in Vienna in 1865, Breslau in 1873 and Paris in 1880. The picture “Der Hypochonder” (“In the Wirtsgarten”) was acquired by the Neue Pinakothek in 1915 (Inv. 8839).
