Wilhelm Grothe

Wilhelm Grothe (born October 5, 1830 in Berlin ; † February 13, 1892 ) was a German writer, actor and publisher. He was a representative of Renaissanceism .

Life and works

Wilhelm Grothe, son of a school principal, studied history and philology. He was a partner in Richard Sandrog & Co. from 1860 to 1862 and from 1863 the owner of the Wilh company. Grothe and from 1867 owner of Wilh. Grothe's range. Among other things, he wrote a Borgia trilogy; He wrote several works on the theater in the series From the kingdom of lamps and make-up .

Julia Ilgner suggested the term "Renaissance novels" to categorize his epic historical poetry. His Cesare Borgia as a representative of the Panitalia idea in The Duke of Valentinois is allusive to the German situation in the 1860s.

Grothe was a prolific writer:

In 1883, Grothes libretto for the opera Sangeskönig Hiarne and Das Tyrsingschwert was printed in Munich . The music came from Heinrich Marschner . The premiere took place on September 13, 1863 in the Frankfurt National Theater.

Apparently without a date, but probably around 1862, Clara Liedtke appeared , a souvenir sheet for the actress Clara Stich, who died in 1862 .
