Wilhelm Hase von Waldeck (Czech Vilém Zajíc z Valdeka ; † October 9, 1319 ) was a Bohemian nobleman and politician.

Life

After the death of the last Přemyslid , Hase von Waldeck, son of Zbyslav von Techebon ( Zbyslav z Třebouně ) intervened in the battle for the Bohemian throne between 1306 and 1310. He represented the interests of Heinrich von Kärnten and was one of the declared opponents of Rudolf III. of Habsburg .

After the death of the Habsburgs and Heinrich's takeover, Hase von Waldeck recognized his inability to rule the country. He took part in battles with mercenaries against the king and sided with the noble classes that supported Elizabeth's claims to the crown. After her marriage to Johann von Luxemburg , he took over the leadership of the Bohemian nobility, which supported the claims of the Luxemburgers. Together with the Queen, he succeeded in convincing the Luxembourger of the danger posed by the opposition, led by Heinrich von Leipa, and he was authorized to imprison them. As a reward, he received his post as chamberlain, whom he accompanied from 1315 to 1317. The queen's trust went so far that she entrusted him with her son Wenceslaus, later Charles IV .

In 1318 and 1319 he was appointed supreme marshal. However, he took part in the struggle of the Bohemian nobles against the king, who himself hardly stayed in Bohemia. It didn't take long before the lords of Leipa convinced the king that Wilhelm Hase von Waldeck had forged a plot against him in which they wanted to promote young Wenzel to his throne and take over rule in his name. Johann then separated his mother from her children and had his wife besieged, who was protected by Hase von Waldeck. The royal couple reconciled, but the position of Wilhelm Hase von Waldeck suffered and he lost his post to his opponent Heinrich von Leipa.

Wilhelm reappears in 1319 as the commander of the Bohemian army, which was assigned to Ludwig of Bavaria as support. In one of the battles Hase von Waldeck fell.
