Wilhelm Heinrich von Nassau-Usingen (born May 2, 1684 in 's-Hertogenbosch , † February 14, 1718 in Usingen ) was Prince of Nassau-Usingen from 1702 to 1718 .

family

Wilhelm Heinrich was the son of Prince Walrad von Nassau-Usingen and Catherine Françoise, Comtesse de Croÿ -Roeulx.

Wilhelm Heinrich married Princess Charlotte Amalie (1680–1738), daughter of Prince Heinrich von Nassau-Dillenburg , on April 15, 1706 , and had nine children with her, five of whom died within the first year of life:

  • Wilhelm Heinrich (1718–1768), Prince of Nassau-Saarbrücken

After his death in 1718 he was succeeded by his underage son Karl as Prince of Nassau-Usingen. Charlotte Amalie ruled as guardian until he came of age.

Working in Usingen

Wilhelm Heinrich founded the place named after him Wilhelmsdorf in 1707 . Wilhelm-Heinrich-Strasse in Wilhelmsdorf is named after him. A plaque with his picture has been attached to the old town hall there since 2013.

Military career

Like his father, Wilhelm Heinrich was also in military service. In 1691 he joined the Dutch service as a cavalry officer and from 1701 to 1707 led the whale regiment as a colonel . He was wounded on June 30, 1703 in the Battle of Ekeren .
