Wilhelm II. (Jülich, Count)
Wilhelm II the Great of Jülich († 1207 ) was Count of Jülich from 1176 to 1207 . With him the first Jülich count's house died out.
Life
Wilhelm followed his father Wilhelm I as Count von Jülich in 1176 . The rise of the Jülich counts began with him. With the Maubach legacy of his wife Averardis von Saffenberg and the associated game ban rights, the Jülich influence began to expand into the Eifel . Wilhelm built Nideggen Castle to secure his rule . He won the bailiwick over St. Georg and St. Ursula in Cologne. He sold the bailiwick of Soest to the Counts of Cuyk-Arnsberg . After his death, the county went to Wilhelm III. about, the son of his sister Jutta and Eberhards I., Herr von Hengenbach .
