Wilhelm Martin Becker

Wilhelm Martin H. Becker (born December 13, 1874 in Gernsheim ; † 1957 ) was a German teacher and historian .

Life

Wilhelm Martin Becker was the son of the factory manager Gustav Becker and his wife Pauline nee Schäfer. After attending grammar school, he studied history, German and classical philology and geography at the universities of Munich and Giessen. In 1899 he graduated as Dr. phil. and passed the state examination. He then worked in the higher teaching post in Mainz, Darmstadt and Laubach. Due to his scientific work, he was temporarily on leave. In 1904 he was appointed senior teacher in Mainz. A year later he moved to Darmstadt to what is now the Georg Büchner School , and at the same time he became an unskilled worker at the Hessian State Archives there. In 1913 he was awarded the title of professor. In 1917/18 he took part in the First World War. In 1931 he retired as a teacher and lived in Darmstadt, Büchnerstraße 15.

He was a member of the Monument Council for Hesse and joined the NSDAP on May 1, 1933 (membership number 1,888,679).

Wilhelm Martin Becker was married to the writer Käthe Sturmfels since 1908 . The marriage produced a son and a daughter.
