Wilhelm Mohr (composer)

Wilhelm Mohr (born February 18, 1904 in Hamburg ; † June 30, 1989 in Königstein im Taunus ) was a German composer and organist .

Life

During his school days in Hamburg, Wilhelm Mohr enjoyed a musical education in theory, composition and piano playing at the Johanneum High School with Anton Penkert and Julius Spengel , and musicology with Georg Anschütz at the Brahms Conservatory in Hamburg-Uhlenhorst . The first compositions (chamber music) date back to 1920. The concert activity began in 1921, the first composition evening took place in the Hamburg music hall in March 1927.

In addition, Wilhelm Mohr studied law in Tübingen, Kiel and Hamburg followed clerkship in Hamburg, where he in 1927 to Dr. jur. PhD . During his legal clerkship he also taught piano and music theory and took on duties as a choir director and conductor in the Wandsbeker Musikfreunde association in 1929.

From 1929 to 1933 he was a music critic for the Hamburger Fremdblatt . From 1938 he lived as a composer, musicologist, pianist and harpsichordist in Falkenstein im Taunus , where he was also organist at the Martin Luther Church.
