Gottfried Wilhelm Pritzkow (born October 29, 1928 in Berlin ; † February 11, 2013 in Merseburg ) was a German chemist and professor of technical chemistry at the TH Merseburg .

life and work

Pritzkow studied chemistry at the University of Rostock from 1946 to 1949 , where he received his doctorate in 1951. He then worked at the Institute for Catalysis Research in Rostock until 1956. His habilitation took place in 1956 at the University of Halle . After a time as an industrial chemist in the Leuna works , he accepted a position at the TH Merseburg in 1961, initially as a professor with a teaching position and from 1969 with a chair. He was also an honorary lecturer in Halle from 1957 and later an honorary professor for technical chemistry. In 1994 he retired in Merseburg.

His research focus was on the oxidation of hydrocarbons , the chemistry of alkyl azides, and kinetic and mechanistic studies. He was awarded the Friedrich Wöhler Prize in 1961 and the August Kekulé Medal in 1982. From 1968 to 1970 he was on the board of the Chemical Society of the GDR and a member of the Leopoldina (1973).
