Wilhelm Quade (born December 1, 1898 in Strasbourg ; † June 10, 1975 in Hanover ) was a German mathematician and professor at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . As an essential work he formulated the mathematically exact representation of the solution methods for the complex alternating current calculation with complex voltages and currents applied in theoretical electrical engineering .

Live and act

Quade initially studied until 1923 at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, today the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Electrical Engineering . Several years of work at Siemens followed , and from 1927 he was assistant at the chair for higher mathematics at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. Quade received his doctorate in 1931 under Karl Boehm (1873-1958) on the subject of some variation approaches in the electrodynamics of resting bodies , followed by his habilitation two years later . In 1933 he became a private lecturer and in 1938 an associate professor. After the Second World War , in 1948 he became Head of Chair B for Higher Mathematics at the Technical University of Hanover , today Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover. In 1950 he became a full professor and director of the Institute for Higher Mathematics B in Hanover. His work dealt with differential equations , dimensional analysis and the algebraic structure of the size calculus in physics. In 1964 he retired, but still held regular lectures on functional analysis and partial differential equations , in the last years of his life only special lectures for doctoral students.

Since 1957 he was a member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .
