Wilhelm Raimund (Carcassonne)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Raimund ( French : Guillaume Raymond , occit : Guilhem Ramon ) († 1034 ) had been count of part of Carcassonne since 1012 . He was the second son of Count Raimund I. Roger and his wife Garsinde (Garsendis), the heiress of Béziers and Agde.

Since Wilhelm Raimund's father died before his grandfather, he and his older brother Peter Raimund followed Count Roger I the old in equal parts in Carcassonne . Details about Wilhelm Raimund's rule are not known.

Marriage and offspring

Count Wilhelm Raimund was married to a woman whose name was unknown, with whom he had three sons:

Since Wilhelm Raimund's sons were not of age when he died, his uncle, the Bishop of Girona , Peter Roger took over the guardianship of them. After Peter and Bernard died young, the bishop took over their property and officiated as count himself. When Peter Roger died in 1050, he did not bequeath these areas to the uncle of the young counts, Peter Raimund, but to his nephew, Count Roger I von Foix . From then on he officiated as Roger II in Carcassonne.

The property of Count Raimund II. Wilhelm, however, went to Peter Raimund after his death.
