Dom Claude Devic , also Claude de Vic (* 1670 Sorèze ; † January 23, 1734 in the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés , Paris ), was a French Benedictine monk of the Congrégation de Saint-Maur .

Life

Devic made his vows in 1687 at the age of 17 in the Prieuré Notre-Dame de la Daurade in Toulouse . In 1701 he went to Rome accompanied by the General Procurator of the Order. Here he dealt with manuscripts from the Vatican and procured a number of them for the monks in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Back in France, he worked with Dom Joseph Vaissète on the Histoire générale de Languedoc , the first volume of which was published in 1730, the second in 1733. Devic was preparing to go to Rome as Procurator General of the order when he died in 1734. After his death Vaissète published the remaining three volumes (1737, 1742 and 1746) alone.
