Wilhelm Schrader (diplomat)

Wilhelm Schrader (born September 10, 1914 in Hohenhameln , † July 2, 2006 in Bonn ) was a German economist and diplomat .

Life

Schrader, son of a farmer, did his military service as a lieutenant colonel during World War II and was taken prisoner at the end of the war, from which he returned in 1947/48. In 1949 Schrader made up his Abitur at an evening high school in Hanover and studied law and economics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1954 to 1958 . After completing his studies, Schrader worked at the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn and trained young diplomats as a lecturer.

Wilhelm Schrader was married to Ilse Behne for the first time, who died of typhus in 1946 . In 1954 he married Ursula Gaddum, born on May 3, 1929 in Peine, who died of cancer in 1995. Both marriages remained childless.

Wilhelm Schrader Foundation

After the death of his second wife, Schrader created several legacies in 1997, including one for the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland with the Wilhelm Schrader Foundation . The aim of this foundation is to promote the reputation of the Evangelical Church and the Protestant faith in public. In accordance with the statutes, it supports research and school projects as well as scientific studies on the history, present and future of the Evangelical Church and projects in the field of public relations that promote or have promoted the reputation of the Evangelical Church in a special way.

The first award winner in 2008 was the WDR Internet portal World Religions.
