Wilhelm Sprott

Wilhelm Sprott (born August 18, 1883 in the Cunrau estate ; Salzwedel , † February 1, 1953 in Laboe ) was a mayor in Laboe. He is an honorary citizen of this place and a street was named after him.

After serving in the Navy, he came to Laboe before 1914.

Sprott became a member of the SPD and was in a leading position in Laboe during the November Revolution of 1918. The community Laboe hired him on April 1, 1919 and appointed him already on September 10, 1919 as deputy community leader.

On May 21, 1924, Sprott was elected full-time mayor. Until 1933 he played a major role in local political decisions. It is thanks, among other things, to his contribution that the naval memorial was built in Laboe.

Wilhelm Sprott was dismissed from the community of Laboe on July 24, 1934 for political reasons.

The British military government appointed him from 1945 to 1946 as an assistant to the acting mayor. On February 27, 1946, Sprott was elected honorary mayor in Laboe. After the new local electoral law came into effect, he was elected the first mayor of Laboe on April 15, 1950.

For health reasons, Wilhelm Sprott resigned as mayor on May 19, 1951 and resigned all of his honorary posts on November 21, 1952.

The local council in Laboe elected Wilhelm Sprott as an honorary citizen on December 1, 1952.

The "Lange Strasse" in Laboe was renamed "Wilhelm-Sprott-Strasse" after his death.
