geography

course

The brook has its source about 700 m southeast of Betteldorf on the northeast flank of the Bremelchen ( 608.7  m above sea  level ) at an altitude of 559  m above sea level. NHN . First flowing to the northeast, the Ahbach runs through several ponds north of Dockweiler . Moving further in a north-easterly direction, it crosses under the federal highway 410 and a little later reaches the southern outskirts of Dreis . The Angersbach flows there on the right , and then the Feuerbach in the village itself , which is listed as the Ahbach in the Rhineland-Palatinate water station. At its mouth, the course turns in west-north-westerly directions. Before leaving the Dreis locality, the Brückerbach also flows on the right . On the outskirts of Dreis the Ahbach crosses under the federal highway 421 and now flows to the Dreisermühle in a westerly direction.

Now the course turns north. After about a kilometer of the river, the Ahbach passes Oberehe-Stroheich . On the northern outskirts of the village, the Sellbach flows to the left of the Ahbach ; then it continues in north-northeastern directions. After a further 1.7 km of flow, the Rudersbach strengthens it from the right , and after another 1.6 km of flow from the same side, the Grünbach . At its mouth, the Ahbach turns abruptly to the northwest and after a 1.3 km flow path takes the Schmitzbach on the left. The Niedereherbach flows 1.2 km below ; shortly thereafter, water is knocked off into the 500 m long mill ditch of the Nohnermühle, which the Ahbach reaches after a 660 m stretch of flow. Below the Nohnermühle, the river makes three distinctive loops.

After flowing again in a northerly direction, the Mühlenbach flows south of Üxheim-Ahütte over the Dreimühlen waterfall from the left. In Ahütte follow the Rohrsbach on the same side and after another 900 m the Kirbach . The Ahbach meanders further north, passes the hammer mill and further down the border with North Rhine-Westphalia . Shortly after crossing into this federal state, the Kalbsbach runs to the left and the Klausbach about 750 m later , before the small river itself at 331  m above sea level. NHN flows into the Ahr from the right.

Structure and goodness

The Ahbach is one of the coarse material rich, silicate low mountain range brooks . According to official information, the structure of the water in the upper reaches up to Oberehe-Stroheich has changed very strongly to completely for long stretches, below Oberehe-Stroheich it has only changed significantly, although some sections have changed more advantageously than only moderately or, conversely, as strongly or very strongly be valid.

The water quality is moderately polluted on the upper reaches to Oberehe-Stroheich. The quality is improved by inflows and is described below Oberehe-Stroheich as only slightly polluted. The classification deteriorates with the inflow of the Schmitzbach back to moderately polluted, while below the Nohnermühle it is again classified as slightly polluted.

Nature reserve

On its short route through North Rhine-Westphalia, the Ahbach flows through the nature reserve Michelsbach, Ahbach and Aulbach with tributaries.
