Wilhelm Stettler

Wilhelm Stettler (baptized March 12, 1643 in Bern ; † before February 9, 1708 ibid) was a Swiss miniature and baroque painter .

Wilhelm was the grandson of the chronicler Michael Stettler (1580–1642). Inspired by the Lorraine goldsmith Claude Pivard, he turned to art and took drawing lessons from Joseph Werner and Jakob Wäber in Bern . He learned the art of etching with Conrad Meyer in Zurich and later traveled to Versailles . As a journeyman of Joseph Werner, he came into contact with the works of Le Brun and Poussin.
