Wilhelm Tarras

Wilhelm Willi Tarras (born February 3, 1901 in Hartlieb near Breslau , † March 24, 1970 in Eggersdorf near Strausberg ) was a German jockey in horse racing .

Wilhelm Tarras learned from coach Wilhelm Thiede in Karlshorst and was successful as a jockey from 1920 to 1949. He won his first race with a victory rate of 2242: 10 at the Grunewald racecourse . Tarras was able to win the Golden Whip five times (1922, 1924, 1925, 1927 and 1928) alone . In 1922 he won the German Derby in Hamburg with his family friend . In 1923 he worked as a stable jockey for the Schlenderhan Stud . Other jobs were, among others, for the Weil stud - for which he won the Derby in 1922 - and for Peter de Nully Brown. From 1935 to 1938 he rode successfully in Denmark and Sweden. After his career as a jockey, which he ended in 1949, he worked as a representative for veterinary articles and from 1960 to 1965 as the main starter at the Hoppegarten horse racing track . Tarras has nearly 900 victories in his career.
