Schlenderhan Stud
The Schlenderhan Stud is an important German thoroughbred stud that has had an impact on the history of thoroughbred breeding with horses such as oleander and black gold in Germany.
history
The stud in Quadrath-Ichendorf was founded in 1869 by Eduard von Oppenheim (1831–1909). It is the oldest private German racing team. The stud is named after the Schlenderhan castle and former manor belonging to the stud , which belonged to the family of the Lords von und zu Schlenderhan until the beginning of the 16th century. After the male line died out in 1512, through the marriage of Maria von und zu Schlenderhan with Johann Raitz von Frentz, it came into the possession of the family of the later Barons Raitz von Frentz von und zu Schlenderhan, whose former seat Frens Castle is also in Quadrath-Ichendorf .
In 1869 Schlenderhan was auctioned off to the private banker Eduard von Oppenheim from the family who owned the Sal Oppenheim jr. & Cie. in Cologne over. After the death of Karin Baroness von Ullmann (née Freiin von Oppenheim ) in 2009, Georg von Ullmann took over the stud.
At the end of 2016, the stud changed hands again when Deutsche Bank became the owner of Schlenderhan. The background to this was the imbalance of Bank Sal. Oppenheim at the time, which meant that some ex-shareholders had to hand over assets to the institute.
In March 2019 it became known that Georg von Ullmann had bought back the stud from the bank. According to Manager Magazin , he paid a mid-single-digit million amount for this.
successes
By 2009 the stud had recorded 38 breeder and 33 owner championships. With 19 victories in the German Derby , Schlenderhan is the most successful German stud. In 2007 it was expanded to include a department on the Fischbachhöhe , which has its own training race track.
The most important breeding results of Schlenderhans are the horses Oleander and Schwarzgold , whose offspring are still represented in horse racing today. In addition to their own successful breeding, the stud owners and administrators have always succeeded in acquiring outstanding horses such as black cock , monsoon and manduro . The stallion Monsun from the Isarland stud , bought at auction, developed into one of the most important international sires.
