Wilhelm Versing
Wilhelm Versing ( 1811 in Munich - 1879 in Odessa ) was a German theater actor and opera singer ( bass / baritone ).
Life
At first he was an actor in Munich and then worked at the theaters in Mainz and Düsseldorf (1836–1837).
In Düsseldorf he switched to opera singing and was engaged at the Imperial Court Opera in St. Petersburg from 1838 to 1844. After this was dissolved, he went to the Italian opera there from 1844 to 1847. From 1847 to 1855 he was employed at the German State Theater in Prague.
After that he worked almost exclusively as a singer, but later occasionally appeared on stage in guest performances.
His star role was that of "Tsar" in Zar und Zimmermann , other roles also included "Tell", "Bertram" and "Kaspar".
He was married to Auguste Lauber (1810-1880), whose daughter was Anna Versing-Hauptmann (1834-1896).
