Life

After an apprenticeship as a locksmith and subsequent apprenticeship in the technical office at Ullrich & Hinrichs Act.-Ges. Wilhelm Vogelbusch graduated from the mechanical engineering and smelting school in Duisburg (today University of Duisburg-Essen ) with distinction in Ratingen . From 1911 back at Ullrich & Hinrichs (later Düsseldorf-Ratinger Maschinen- und Apparatebau AG ) he became an “engineer for distillery and air yeast factory equipment” with an “annual salary of 3,600 marks”. In October 1918 he went to Typha- Verwertungsgesellschaft mbH in Berlin as technical director and a year later as technical director of the Peitz fiber works in Cottbus .

Already known as an expert in the fermentation and yeast industry in the former Austria-Hungary , Wilhelm Vogelbusch was called to Vienna by the Harmer ( Ottakringer brewery ) and Mautner Markhof families as a "technical advisor for apparatus construction, alcohol and compressed yeast". In 1921 a technical office was founded there for the planning and installation of baker's yeast factories and alcohol systems. As an exceptionally talented engineer, Wilhelm Vogelbusch was also constantly working on new developments.

Based on the problems of his customers, numerous developments of apparatus and technical devices emerged in the following decades, which became decisive for the fermentation industry. He was an inventor who knew how to successfully put his trend-setting findings from the laboratory into practice. His main focus was on economic efficiency, energy saving and high product purity, as documented in many specialist publications (e.g. in the VDI magazine) and with worldwide patents.

In 1956, Wilhelm Vogelbusch handed over his company to the Mautner Markhof press yeast factory in Vienna for reasons of age . The acquisition agreement contains a list of the inventor's patents at that time: 38 pending patents, 15 pending patents and 99 expired patents. However, he remained connected to the new company, Vogelbusch GmbH , as a consultant and shaped the intensive research work for efficient processes and apparatus for the fermentation industry until his death in 1979.

With the scientific accuracy he is used to, Wilhelm Vogelbusch also devoted himself to his private interests: hunting (although he was more of a hunter than a hunter) and photography and filming, especially of animals. Animal photos and portrait studies (with his Leica ) were bought by Leitz Wetzlar for publication in brochures and magazines.
