Wilhelm Witte (mining engineer)

Wilhelm Witte (born November 7, 1891 in Wetzlar ; † October 13, 1974 there ) was mining director of the Buderus company.

Live and act

Born as the son of the master builder Wilhelm Witte and his wife Wilhelmine, Witte studied in Munich and at the Bergakademie in Berlin. His studies were interrupted by his participation in the First World War . In 1919 he joined the mining administration in Wetzlar, but switched to Buderus as early as 1920 . Witte received his doctorate with a paper on the iron and manganese ore deposit near Ober-Rosbach (in front of the height) . At Buderus he was mine director from 1927 to 1956 and was also appointed to the Buderus board in 1942.

Witte joined the Wetzlar Freemason Lodge Wilhelm to the three helmets in 1920 . His daughter Barbara Lüdemann (* 1922, † 1992) was a member of the German Bundestag.

Honors

  • 1953: Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
  • 1956: Honorary doctorate (Dr. Ing.hc) from the Technical University of Berlin
  • 1957: Honorary doctorate (Dr. rer. Nat. Hc) from the Justus Liebig University of Giessen
