Wilhelm van Calker

Wilhelm Otto Julius van Calker (born May 1, 1869 on the Bleiche estate near Lindau - Reutin ; † March 29, 1937 in Freiburg i. Br. ) Was a German legal scholar .

Life

Wilhelm van Calker was born as the son of the mayor of Wesel Wilhelm Otto van Calker. He was a brother of the criminal law professor and politician Fritz van Calker . After attending grammar school in Kempten in the Allgäu, van Calker studied law in Munich from the winter semester of 1887/88 . During his studies he became a member of the AGV Munich in the special houses association . In the summer semester of 1889 he went to the University of Berlin and returned to Munich in the spring of 1890. The first state examination took place there in 1891. In 1900 he received his doctorate from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , where he also obtained his habilitation in the same year . He then taught constitutional and administrative law at the University of Freiburg until he was appointed full professor at the University of Gießen in 1903 . There he mainly wrote works on the Hessian state and state administrative law . In 1912 he became a member of the Hessian Administrative Court . In 1913 he became a professor at Kiel University and lecturer in international law at the Imperial Naval Academy . In Kiel, van Calker began to deal with international law. In 1918 he moved to the University of Freiburg, where he worked until his retirement in 1935. He was married to Carola Leichtlin , the daughter of the Karlsruhe paper manufacturer Camill Leichtlin .
