Wilhelm von Elswig

Wilhelm von Elswig (* 1613 in Lübeck ; † August 13, 1680 ibid) was a German merchant and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

The merchant Wilhelm von Elswig was a member of the Lübeck Schonenfahrer . As the word leading older man he signed in 1669 for the Schonenfahrer mediated the kingdom Bürgerrezess with the Lübeck Council and was then himself elected on 2 October 1669 for alderman of the city. He worked in the council from 1671 to 1673 as a builder, so he was responsible for the city's building yard .

He owned a courtyard and garden area at the gates of the city, the Elswigshof in today's Lübeck-St. Jurgen . In the course of the settlement in 1871, Elswig-Strasse was named after him and the location of the farm.
