Wilhelm von Wymetal (journalist)

Wilhelm von Wymetal (born December 27, 1838 in Vienna , † January 4, 1896 in Munich ) was an Austrian journalist and writer .

Life

As the son of a Viennese court counselor, he received a varied education, began studying law, which he completed with a doctorate, and then switched to art history. When his hope for a conservatorial position was not fulfilled, Wyl went on trips around the world for two decades, several times as a reporter for major newspapers such as the Neue Freie Presse and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , for which he wrote under the pseudonym "W. Wyl". His reports on the Oberammergau Passion Play in the Berliner Tageblatt , which he later published in the May days in Oberammergau , became famous . An artistic pilgrimage (1880) and Der Christus-Mayr. New studies from Oberammergau summarized. He reports on his Italian experiences in walks in Naples, Sorrento, Pompeii, Capri, Amalfi, Pästum and in the Museo Borbonico (1877) and in Venetian Stories and Figures of the 16th Century . In 1882 he went to North America and wrote articles for the German Monday newspaper about the Mormons. In 1891 he attended the world exhibition in Chicago as a correspondent for the Kölnische Zeitung . In 1895 he retired to Munich due to illness, where he died on January 4, 1896.
