This was preceded by an architectural competition in which the design by Berlin architects Gustav Erdmann and Ernst Spindler prevailed. The construction was carried out under the supervision of the city master builder König.

The facade is lavishly designed and structured in stone . On the ground floor there are large shop windows designed as round arches . At the south-east corner there is a polygonal oriel crowned by a hood .

At the beginning of the 21st century, the building was empty and its existence was considered endangered. However, the building was then renovated .
