William Tremere Barnes (born May 2, 1988 in Tuscaloosa , Alabama ) is an American basketball player. He plays for the Hamburg club Eimsbütteler TV .

career

Barnes played basketball at Hillcrest High School in his hometown of Tuscaloosa , Alabama , before joining Tennessee Technological University (first division of the NCAA ) in 2006 , where he stayed until 2010. In 70 missions for Tennessee Tech, he averaged 6.8 points and gave 2.3 basket assists. Barnes took a break between 2010 and 2012 and then completed his college career in the 2012/13 season at Lee University, which is part of NAIA . For the team that is nicknamed "The Flames", he recorded excellent averages of 20 points, four rebounds and 2.6 assists per match in 34 games. He led Lee in the NAIA championship round among the nation's 16 best teams and was named "Player of the Year" of the Southern States Athletic Conference.

Barnes began his career as a professional basketball player at the German second division Paderborn Baskets and made the East Westphalia third best basketball player in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA (18.8 points per game). In the 2014/15 season he was part of the first team in the history of the Hamburg Towers  (also 2. Bundesliga ProA) and led the Hanseatic League as the best thrower (13.8 points on average) and team captain.

A change to the Weißenhorn Youngstars in the 2. Bundesliga ProB  was then broken because of a knee injury. Barnes had to undergo surgery and was suspended in the 2015/16 season. While he was doing advanced training after the operation, he worked for the Hamburg Towers in youth work and, among other things, supervised basketball courses at Hamburg schools.

In the 2016/17 season Barnes returned to the field at SC Rist Wedel and played 18 games for the team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB with an average of 11.1 points and 3.8 assists per game. In August 2017 he was introduced as a new addition to TSG Bergedorf (promoted to the first Regionalliga Nord). With 18.7 points per game, he was Bergedorf's best scorer in 2017/18. Barnes missed the start of the 2018/19 season due to knee problems, and in October 2018 TSG and the American separated. From the 2018/19 season he also worked as an individual trainer at Hamburg Towers. In summer 2020 he went to Eimsbütteler TV as a youth coach and returned to the field as a player at the same club (promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB).
