Will Cassel (actually Wilhelm Georg Cassel ; born August 25, 1927 in Dortmund ) is a German painter , draftsman and total object performance artist as well as a freelance lecturer in art and cultural education.

Life

He has lived in Krefeld since 1934 and attended the art school there from 1943 to 1948. From 1952 to 1953 he studied at the Venice Art Academy and in 1964 at the School of Textile Arts, Krefeld. From 1966 to 1972 Cassel was a lecturer at the School for Textile Arts in Krefeld and from 1972 to 1980 a lecturer at the comprehensive universities in Dortmund and Essen.

Since 1967 he has been using the white dwarf as an abstraction for being. The artist uses the garden gnome in his art, among other things, as an object against paternalism. In political campaigns since the late 1960s, he placed white gypsum dwarfs on busy public squares in German cities to draw attention to the ongoing environmental destruction and global power politics. With these he demonstrated in New York in front of the UN and in Washington in front of the White House .

His recording posters, such as We are the world or the world arena of violence, are full of abstract dwarf ciphers and include people in his art. The dwarf cipher abstracts being throughout the work. In the world theater pictures , the ciphers are part of the programs shown in the pictures.

In 2011, Cassel was awarded the City Seal of the City of Krefeld for his longstanding services as a Krefeld painter, draftsman and project performance artist.
