Siegfried Cremer (born June 24, 1929 in Dortmund ; † January 15, 2015 in Stuttgart ) was a visual artist , restorer and collector.

Life

Cremer worked as a restorer at the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in Krefeld from 1955 to 1964 . From 1964 to 1977 he headed the restoration studio of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart , from 1977 to 1994 he was professor of painting technique at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

As an artist, Siegfried Cremer created an extensive and varied oeuvre that has grown steadily over more than 50 years. It ranges from mobile and kinetic objects from around 1960 ( kinetic art ) and reduced settings in the 1970s to random gestural painting as well as pictures and sculptures made from found objects to paper collages, mainly from art prints, which he has focused on since the mid-80s.

Between 1955 and 1974 Siegfried Cremer brought together a collection of works of art, especially from the 1960s ( ZERO , Fluxus , Nouveau Réalisme ) (including a bundle of works by Hermann Finsterlin ), some of which went to the Museum am Ostwall in Dortmund , partly flowed into the Cremer Collection Foundation, which is located in the Landesmuseum Münster . Every two to four years the foundation awards the Cremer Prize for Art in the Spirit of Fluxus and Nouveau Réalisme (for the first time in 2005).
