Willem Jodocus Mattheus Engelberts
Willem Jodocus Mattheus Engelberts (born January 21, 1809 in Amsterdam , † May 9, 1887 in Aalst ) was a Dutch genre painter, etcher and art dealer.
Born as the grandson of the amateur artist and pastor Engelbertus Matthias Engelberts (1731–1807) and the son of the landscape painter and art dealer Engelbert Michael Engelberts (1773–1843), he studied from 1825 in Amsterdam at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten and from 1826 to 1830 at of the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen with Ferdinand de Braekeleer .
After completing his studies, he continued his father's art business, also engaged in genre painting and etchings, often based on the works of other artists. In 1850 he was appointed director of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam . He participated in exhibitions in Amsterdam and The Hague from 1828 to 1871.
