Life

Willi Bucher grew up in the village of Bühl near Günzburg on the Danube. The family showed little understanding for his artistic ambitions and was dominated by the strictness of his father.

Willi Bucher

In 1970 he began studying graphic design at the Werkkunstschule Augsburg and graduated as a qualified designer in 1974 from the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences . Subsequently, he studied art and social studies for teaching at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main until 1977 and did his legal clerkship at the Melibokus School in Alsbach. He passed the second state examination in 1978.

In 1980 he became a freelancer for the German Werkbund and made exhibitions with Michael Andritzky. Together with him and many other employees, Bucher arranged contemporary themes and linked aesthetic manifestations in exhibitions and catalogs “for example, chairs. A journey through the cultural history of sitting ”or“ Shock and Creation-Youth Aesthetics in the 20th Century ”.

Bucher painted on the side, gained experience and put together an oeuvre that he exhibited for the first time in 1987 at the Kunsthaus Aab & Schelm in Darmstadt. As a career changer in the art business, Bucher worked in 1999 and 2007 a. a. worked with Ralf Kopp in the field of video art and developed the so-called "beboxx" with him. Bucher used glass blocks as picture carriers , individually, as sculptures or combined to form entire walls. Alp Galleries from New York presented Bucher's paintings and video installations at various art fairs and in its own exhibitions. Bucher also created mobile art objects, such as the container installations “Mea culpa” and “Civilization Remnants”, which were on view (from December 2009 to October 2011) at the Zollverein Coal Mine Foundation .

The 3D installation of “Color | Space” in a black box was shown for the first time at art Karlsruhe 2011 by Sara Asperger Gallery Berlin. The picturesque, however, runs through the different media up to the 3D video room. Bucher's topics range from existential and social issues to art-immanent discourses. Bucher currently lives and works in Darmstadt .
