Willi Elstner

Willi Elstner (born March 9, 1908 in Karolinsfeld / Bohemia , † January 24, 1959 in Berlin ) was a German party functionary ( SED ) of the GDR. He was deputy chairman of the Society for Sport and Technology (GST).

Life

The son of a carpenter completed an apprenticeship as a weaver after attending primary school. From 1932 to 1940 he worked as a master weaver in Hauserwitz. In 1918 he became a member of the Workers' Sports Association, in 1922 of the Communist Youth Association of the ČSR and in 1925 of the KPTsch . After 1933 he did illegal anti-fascist resistance work and was a member of the SA from May 1939 to September 1940 on behalf of the party . In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and in 1945 was taken prisoner by the Soviets.

In 1945/46 he worked as a weaver in Grottau / ČSR . In May 1946 he moved to Germany in the Soviet occupation zone . In 1946 he became a member of the SED. In 1946/47 he worked as a master weaver in Stöckigt . From 1947 to 1950 he worked as an instructor or department head in the SED state leadership in Saxony-Anhalt. In 1950 he went to the party headquarters in Berlin and became deputy head of the governing bodies department of the SED Central Committee (responsible for the trade unions sector). In 1953 he was briefly head of this department (successor to Heinz Glaser ). In 1955 he was first deputy head of the GST and confirmed at the 1st GST Congress in September 1956 as first deputy chairman of the GST central board. Since the ADMV was founded on June 2, 1957, he has been a member of its executive committee and since 1957 a member of the DTSB federal executive committee.

He died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 51.
