Willi Gerlach
Willi Artur Martin Gerlach (born November 10, 1909 in Elberfeld , † after 1972) was a German oboist .
Life
Willi Gerlach was born in 1909 as the son of a musician. After he was one year old, he studied oboe at the State University of Music in Cologne and with Fritz Flemming at the Berlin University of Music . From 1931 to 1933 he was a military musician and private student with Gustav Kern in Berlin.
In the 1930s he was the first deputy oboist at the Stadttheater Wuppertal . From 1936 to 1972 he was a member (1st oboist) of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra . He also taught at the Leipzig Music Academy from 1942 to 1962 . His students included u. a. Peter Fischer .
