Willi Grewer

Willi Grewer (born October 9, 1932 in Dorsten ; † September 24, 1957 there ) was a German football player . With Rot-Weiss Essen he won the German soccer championship in 1954/55 .

Grewer played in the early 1950s with the Dorstener Club SuS Hervest in the district class . In a game against the reserve of Rot-Weiss Essen, Grewer left a strong impression on the opponent and then switched to the Essenes playing in the Oberliga West . He scored 18 goals in 86 competitive games.

In his first year, Grewer and his new club won the German championship with a 4-3 victory over 1. FC Kaiserslautern . He played in the position of the left runner, so that he was the direct opponent of Fritz Walter in the final . Grewer also played in the newly created 1956 European Cup , but Rot-Weiss Essen was eliminated in the first round against Hibernian Edinburgh . He also played in some games for the German national B soccer team .

During his time at Rot-Weiss Essen, Grewer continued to live on Marxstraße, in the colliery settlement in the Dorsten district of Hervest. There he died unexpectedly of heart failure in 1957 .
