Willy Grill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Willy Grill , also Willi Grill , (born August 25, 1883 in Hamburg ; † May 11, 1957 there ), was a German stage actor with a few excursions to film.

Live and act

Grill began his stage career at the beginning of the 20th century and remained loyal to the two central venues of his hometown for almost his entire life - with the exception of a detour to the German Theater in London. He was seen at the Thalia Theater, where he became an honorary member in 1932, and at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus. As one could read in his obituary in the German Stage Yearbook 1958, he was considered a “master of the small role”. As a noble batch, it appeared, as it was called there, “unobtrusive and yet very distinctive and closed. Willy Grill's convincing presentation lay in his unheard-of will to create, in the special sound of his organ and in the power of his gestures, with which he created clearly defined figures in an impressive line ”.

Barbecue's best-known roles include the landlord in Minna von Barnhelm , the Schlehwein in Much Ado About Nothing , the peddler in Nackte Leben , the Siebenhaar in Fuhrmann Henschel , the porter in Macbeth and the station master in The Visit of the Old Lady , his last stage role . Barbecue's few appearances in front of the camera, especially in the early 1930s, did not get beyond the batch format. The last years of his life were marked by illnesses.
