Willi Lange

Willi Lange (born November 28, 1905 ; † after 1931) was a German football player who twice stood in the finals for the German championship with Meidericher SV .

Career in football

Lange was probably part of the Meidericher SV squad from 1926, but was not a regular player in the 1926/27 season. He was part of a team that always played for the title in the Niederrhein district class, the top division in the league system at that time. After several failures in previous years, the title was won at the end of the 1928/29 season, making the MSV Lower Rhine champions for the first time in the club's history. Lange, who was now regularly called up, had contributed by playing in the decisive replay against SpVgg. Oberhausen scored the winning goal to make it 3-2. Thanks to this success, Meiderich was then allowed to take part in the West German championship , took second place there and thus qualified for the German championship finals of 1929 . In the round of 16 on June 16, the team met the reigning national champion Hamburger SV with the help of Lange , to whom they were narrowly defeated 2: 3 in the Duisburg Wedaustadion .

This was followed by a fight to defend the title on the Lower Rhine, but Homberger SV was able to prevail in 1930. A year later, however, with Lange as an important performer, he again won the title. This was followed by third place in the West German final round, which entitles them to participate in the 1931 German championship . Against the first round opponent TSV 1860 Munich , Lange was on the field and suffered a 1: 4 defeat. After that, he probably belonged to the team until 1932 that again won the title on the Lower Rhine that year, but was unable to qualify for the national final. Later he played for a long time together with his former teammates Eberhard Graffmann and Hennes Schmitz in the old men’s team of Meidericher SV.
