Willi Lemm (born March 23, 1905 in Gelsenkirchen ; † February 1, 1973 in Bad Neustadt an der Saale ) was a German painter and graphic artist . He had a special bond with the Rhön and with his adopted home Bad Neustadt an der Saale.

Life

Willi Lemm began his life as a craftsman. But soon his artistic streak came to fruition. At an early age he made trips to neighboring countries to Westphalia. In 1937 he first moved to Vogelsberg in Hesse and then to Bad Neustadt in 1938. In 1940 he was called up for military service in the Wehrmacht . There he was also employed artistically as a front painter . In 1944 he was taken prisoner by the French near Poitiers , from which he was able to escape in 1946. In 1947, after a long flight, he returned to his new home, the Rhön. Between 1961 and 1968 he went on study trips to Italy, Yugoslavia, Spain, Hungary, Austria, Canada and France. He died on February 1, 1973.

Exhibitions

Commemorative exhibitions took place on the 80th, 90th and 100th birthday in the old administrative building of Bad Neustadt as well as in the Neuhaus district, the spa in Bad Neustadt, and in the Villa Donsenhaug for the 775 year documentary mention of the city.
