William C. Bradbury
William C. "Bill" Bradbury is an American composer, music teacher, and mandolin player.
Bradbury studied composition with Karel Husa , Steven Stucky and Yehudi Wyner at Cornell University , as well as Indonesian gamelan music with Sumarsam and Martin Hutch and music theory with William Austin and Roger Parker . He taught electronic music at Miami University (1979-81), ear training, keyboard and computer-based instruction at Cornell University (1991-93), computer music and keyboard at the University of California (1991-93) and computer music ( MIDI9 ) at the Palomar College . Since 1998 he has worked at California State University , where he teaches world music, American music and computer music technology and has headed the Visual and Performing Arts Department twice (1998–2002 and 2005–06) .
In addition to works for orchestra, chamber ensemble and electronic media, Bradbury also composed film scores. He received an Emmy Award for the music for Anza Borrego: Seasons in the Desert . On the computer-based multimedia project SITE97 he worked with the visual artist Deborah Small and the actress Dana Case . LEAVES for narrator, piano and orchestra was performed on the 50th anniversary of the founding of Palomar College with pianist Peter Gach .
As a musician, Bradbury has worked in various improvisation groups for electronic music, played the banjo with Stoney Point , a group specializing in Appalachian and Irish folk music, was a member of the Cornell Javanese Gamelan group and conductor of the Cornell University wind orchestra.
