William C. Hayes

William Christopher Hayes (born March 21, 1903 in Hempstead , Long Island , † July 10, 1963 in New York City ) was an American Egyptologist . He worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and was the curator of the museum's Egypt department.

In 1956, Hayes was involved as a consultant in the production of the film The Ten Commandments . He was curator of the Egyptian Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1936 until his death.

His book The Scepter of Egypt , which has been reprinted several times to this day, is regarded by many Egyptologists as one of the standard works in their field.
