Life

Drummond's poems do not show any Scottish influences, but are influenced by English and Italian poets. Drummond especially leans towards Edmund Spenser . He not only wrote eulogies and verses on Charles I when he came to Scotland for his coronation visit in 1633, but he also supported him politically both in his submission to the Scots and in his power struggle against the English Parliament .

The British Hawthornden Literature Prize was named after Drummond.
