William Dumas

William Dumas (born January 23, 1942 in Nîmes ) is a French politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 2004 .

Dumas came from a family of winemakers, but worked for the Crédit Agricole from 1965 . He became politically active and joined the Parti socialiste in 1970 . In 1992 he moved to the General Council of the Gard department . Two years later he was elected vice-president. In the local elections in 2001 he was elected mayor of the municipality of Fons . In 2002 he ran for the general election as a deputy to Damien Alary , which he had already done in 1997. After Alary's retirement in 2004, Dumas moved to Parliament. He was re-elected in 2007 and 2012.
