William FitzRoy, 3rd Duke of Cleveland, 2nd Duke of Southampton (born February 19, 1698 - May 18, 1774 at Raby Castle , County Durham ) was an English - British nobleman .

He was the eldest son of Charles FitzRoy, 2nd Duke of Cleveland from his second marriage to Anne Pulteney. As apparent marriage of his father, he carried the courtesy title Earl of Chichester until 1730 .

He was the Comptroller of the Seal and Green Wax office . When his father died in 1730, he inherited his title of nobility as 3rd Duke of Cleveland and 2nd Duke of Southampton , as well as the court office of Chief Butler of England .

In 1731 he married Lady Henrietta Finch (around 1705-1742), daughter of Daniel Finch, 7th Earl of Winchilsea , 2nd Earl of Nottingham (1647-1730). The marriage remained childless. Since he left no heirs, his titles of nobility expired on his death in 1774. His fortune fell mainly to the son of his eldest sister, Henry Vane, 2nd Earl of Darlington . For his son William Vane, 3rd Earl of Darlington , the title Duke of Cleveland was newly created in 1833 .
