William Gorham Rice

William Gorham Rice (born December 23, 1856 in Albany , † September 10, 1945 in Guilderland ) was an American state and federal official from Albany, New York and a civil activist who campaigned for public service reform. He dealt intensively with the subject of carillons , large playable carillons in town halls or church towers. In this way he developed into a serious music writer in this field.

Rice wrote the following works, among others:

  • Carillon Music and Singing Towers of the Old World and the New (London, 1926)
  • Beiaarden in de Nederlanden (Amsterdam, 1927)
  • Tower Music of Belgium and Holland (1915)
