William H. Cannon
William "Bill" H. Cannon (born June 4, 1907 in Shasta County , California , † November 14, 1990 in Siskiyou County , California) was an American assistant director, production assistant and screenwriter who won one Oscar in the best category Assistant director was nominated.
Life
Cannon began his career as an assistant director in the Hollywood film industry in 1926 on the silent film The Honeymoon Express , which was directed by James Flood with Willard Louis , Irene Rich and Holmes Herbert . In the following period he worked as an assistant director in the production of a total of twelve films until 1944.
At the Academy Awards in 1937 he was nominated for the Oscar for best assistant director for the film A Restless Life (1936) by Mervyn LeRoy with Frederic March , Olivia de Havilland and Donald Woods, which was only awarded in the years 1934 to 1938 .
Cannon also worked as a production assistant and screenwriter in film productions such as The Wizard of Oz (1939), although he was usually not mentioned by name in the credits ( "uncredited" ). Most recently, he worked in 1967 as a production assistant again "uncredited" in the production of The Graduate by Mike Nichols with Anne Bancroft , Dustin Hoffman and Katharine Ross in the lead roles with.
