William Haughey, Baron Haughey

William Haughey, Baron Haughey Kt , OBE , (born July 2, 1956 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish businessman , philanthropist and chairman of City Refrigeration Holdings. He was a former non-executive director of the Celtic Football Club and signed a contract with ASDA in 1997 to maintain the refrigeration systems in their nationwide offices.

Life

He married Susan Haughey, b. Moore, and has a daughter, Kenny Haughey. In 1985 he and his wife founded City Refrigeration, a refrigeration appliance manufacturer with headquarters in Gorbals , Glasgow .

Willie Haughey has donated over £ 5,000,000 to charities over the past 5 years. In January 2011, he handed a check for £ 100,000 to UNICEF Ambassador Sir Alex Ferguson to help children in flooded areas of Pakistan . In 2010 alone he donated more than £ 1,300,000.

Haughey has been mentioned in several newspaper reports in connection with Steven Purcell's resignation . The 2010 Sunday Times Rich List estimated his net worth at £ 150,000,000, over € 175,000,000 as of Jan. 2020.

Haughey was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2003 and was awarded a Knight Bachelor's degree in the 2012 Birthday Honors for his services to business and non-profit organizations . On August 1, 2013, it was announced that he would sit as a Labor Peer in the House of Lords . On September 18, 2013, he was promoted to Life Peer with the title Baron Haughey , of Hutchesontown in the City of Glasgow .

He was the 2005 Honorary Doctorate ( Honorary Doctor of Technology ) of the Glasgow Caledonian University awarded.
