Bartlett's works often show social scenes with many people, mostly separated by gender. In his pictures of nature he shows the beauty and destructive power of nature at the same time. One of Bartlett's peculiarities was that he always traveled to the appropriate places for his landscape prints and did not work with sketches like most of his colleagues. He went to North America, the Middle East and European countries. When it comes to printing techniques, he has developed a high degree of sensitivity and attention to detail in his works, especially since the steel engraving technique he most frequently used was still very young.
