William Lawton Goodwin

William Lawton Goodwin (* 1856 in Baie Verte (New Brunswick) , † 1941 ) was a Canadian chemist.

He earned his M.Sc. at the University of Edinburgh , continued his studies at the University of London, in Heidelberg with Robert Wilhelm Bunsen and at Mount Allison University in Sackville .

In 1883 he became professor of chemistry at Queen's University (Kingston) in Ontario. When the Academy for Mining and Agriculture opened in 1893, he became its first director. In 1911 he became dean of the faculty.

He also brought electricity to Kingston , installed a generator in Carruthers Hall, and got the spirited thing working.
