William Otto Brunner

William Otto Brunner (born July 7, 1878 in Wattwil ; † December 1, 1958 ) was a Swiss astronomer .

From 1926 to 1945 he was the director of the Swiss Federal Observatory in Zurich . In this capacity, he continued the Zurich observations of sunspots that the founder of the observatory, Rudolf Wolf , had started in 1864. (These observations were continued there until operations ceased in 1980).

The Brunner crater on the moon was named in his honor.
