Alfred Wolfer

Heinrich Alfred Wolfer (born January 27, 1854 in Schönenberg , † October 8, 1931 in Rorschach ) was a Swiss astronomer.

After completing a commercial apprenticeship and graduating from high school, Wolfer studied mathematics at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum , where he received his habilitation in 1883 without a doctorate. In 1884 he became a private lecturer , in 1891 a titular professor , in 1894 an associate professor at the ETH and the University of Zurich and successor to Rudolf Wolf as head of the Federal Observatory ; in 1922 he became a full professor , and in 1926 he retired.
