William Peverel (nobleman, † 1114)

William Peverel (also William Peverel the Elder or William Peverel I ) († January 28, 1114 ) was a Norman nobleman.

William Peverel has been named in command of Nottingham Castle since 1068 . According to the Domesday Book of 1086, he was an important baron in the northern Midlands . He built several castles, including Castle of the Peak , later called Peveril Castle , and Codnor Castle . He attested numerous documents under the Norman kings.

Peverel married Aveline († after 1130), whose origin is unknown. He had several children with her, including:

Around 1109 he donated Lenton Priory near Nottingham . His heir became his son of the same name, William.
