William Poduska
John William Poduska (* around 1938 ) is an American computer scientist and entrepreneur.
Poduska studied electrical engineering at Rice University (bachelor's degree) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in 1960 and his PhD in 1962 and was an assistant professor of electrical engineering.
He was the founder and vice president of research and development for Prime Computer in 1972 . Prior to that, he was in Honeywell's minicomputer division . He was President, CEO and Chairman of Apollo Computer , which he co-founded in 1980. From 1985 to 1989 he was the founder, chairman and CEO of Stellar Computer . From 1991 to 2000 he was Chairman of Advanced Visual Systems (AVS) (now part of Muse Technologies) and from 1989 to 1991 he was Chairman President of Stardent Inc. He was Partner and Chief Technology Officer of Mindstorm Technologies. In 2000 he was co-founder and vice president of research and development for Anystream Inc. (later Grab Networks).
He was also in various other hardware and software companies in supervisory board positions (for example at Novell ).
Since 2011 he has been Vice President for Software Engineering at Greenbytes. He is also an independent management consultant.
In 1988 he received the W. Wallace McDowell Award . He received the MIT Corporate Leadership and Distinguished Industrial Achievement Award and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering .
